“…Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19

So… after a year and a half as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Palos Verdes… it’s time for a new thing…  No, this is not an announcement of my departure as your Pastor.  The “new thing” is an outreach ministry we call Praise, Prayer, and Proclamation beginning Wednesday April 24 at 7:00 p.m.

“P3”, as we like to call it, is a ministry designed to bring new people into our fellowship through a more contemporary and alternative worship experience.  Our target demographic is to reach out to people who have experienced some brokenness, and perhaps in the past have seen the church as not being a safe place for them to be themselves, and who God created them to be.

Some have suggested, with a smile, we call our new Wednesday night “MLC” for those who are going through a Mid-Life Crisis… well that’s not a bad idea in that as a church isn’t that what we’re about, ministering to people who may be walking through their darkest hour? It is our prayer that P3 is another way of reaching out to others with the unconditional Love and Grace of Jesus Christ, and provide a safe place for people to heal, recover, and discover real freedom in Him.

We also want to offer something different to younger people beyond the traditional style of worship we enjoy on Sunday.  It is our hope and prayer they experience this with us on a Wednesday evening.

We have a team in place, and have received a full endorsement from the board of elders. Already much prayer and planning has gone into “Praise – Prayer – Proclamation.”

We are not expecting “P3” to appeal to all the members of our church, in that the music may be at times loud and rockin’…  But we still need your prayers, especially for a worship leader and band to provide the rockin’ part.  As you think about this “New Baby” we want to give life to, let these words from Colossians guide your heart and attitude;

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ…5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

Thank you for being the church that is open to seeing God do a New Thing in our midst. We are living in exciting times.

Blessings, Pastor Joel

P.S. At this writing it is only 25 more days to Beacon Light Baptism Sunday. Can’t wait!
