4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone…For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

As I observed our church prepare for the celebration of our Lord’s Passion, I couldn’t help but be blessed by the way we all came together to get things done. It reminded me of the above passage in 1 Corinthians.

This was especially present as we anticipated our Beacon Light Baptism Sunday. It was clear to me that everyone had a good understanding of what this would mean to our church, and what it would mean to those who came as our guests that day to be Baptized. I watched this church pitch in to make sure the day was as special as we all hoped it would be, from the baptistery getting fixed to the food being prepared. We had New Testaments to give out to the baptism candidates. We had photos taken, candles lit, tables set up, and plenty of towels.

It seemed to me that everyone had something to do that day and was busy doing it… with a smile on their face and joy in their heart. I know pride is considered a sin and too much of it can ruin a person, but I could not have been more proud to be the Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Palos Verdes that day. I was filled with so much Thanksgiving to God as I watched this church help give to those, who could be considered “the least of these” among our society, a day they will never forget, as was told to me many times by them.

We may have our issues and concerns as a church, but all that was forgotten as we all just came together and loved on people, just like Jesus would want us to. What a Blessing, what a blessing, what a blessing!

Praise be to God the Father and Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ.
